Travel Training

Expand your Horizons and Options in Life!

As part of its mission of promoting Independence through Mobility, Marin Access is developing several travel training options for Marin residents who want to learn about their choices for getting around without driving. Group presentations are currently available, and we’re working on starting a transit ambassador program, featuring transit-savvy volunteers who will work with individual riders.

Group Presentations – Navigating Transit

“Navigating Transit” is a free, one-hour, presentation and discussion about alternatives to driving for older adults in Marin County.  A Marin Transit representative will present extensive information on riding the bus and ferry, including trip planning, tips for riding and fare options for older adults.  It also includes a discussion of transportation alternatives available to older adults in Marin County including volunteer driver programs and the Marin Catch-A-Ride service.  Finally, information on Marin Access Paratransit is presented in depth for those interested in that program.

The focus of this presentation is to give Marin’s older adults a clear picture of the transportation options that are available to them outside of driving.  The use of one or more of these programs in conjunction with one another is encouraged, as different programs can meet different needs.  Questions are welcome throughout the presentation and materials on all of the programs discussed within the presentation are made available for those who would like them.

Sign-up for individualized training classes (described below) are also held immediately following the presentation.

This program can be tailored to the needs of other audiences.

Individualized Travel Training

Marin Transit is pleased to be able to offer individualized travel training to Marin’s older adults.  These “transit tours” consist of a Marin Transit representative who provides a tour of the public bus by planning a trip for the group on an actual transit route.  These trips usually take about three hours and are tailored to the area to which the group requesting a “tour” will be traveling.  There is no cost for this service.

To schedule an individualized travel tour, please contact Jon Gaffney at Marin Transit 415.226.0869.

Transit Ambassador Program

During 2015, Marin Access will be developing a Transit Ambassador Program, featuring trained volunteers who will be available to help individuals learn how to ride transit and other mobility options in the field. Potential volunteers who are familiar with Marin’s transit options and would like to learn more about being a Transit Ambassador should contact Jon Gaffney at Marin Transit 415.226.0869.

Marin Transit has also produced a video on travel training, “How Seniors Use Transit to Travel in Marin”. This video is available in both English and Spanish.
